Football For Unity Launch at the prestigious House of Commons

Special Guest Speakers include President of Atlético Madrid FC, Enrique Cerezo and President of Forbes LATAM, Mariano Menéndez

London, UK – An invitation only launch event of Football for Unity (FFU) will take place on 12 October 2015, at the House of Commons.

FFU has been established to aspire sustainable legacy projects related to football that promote unity amongst young people around the world. It provides a platform for cultural exchange, promotes health and wellbeing, and nurtures aspiring young footballers.

The projects will be set up worldwide, scaling up from successful existing projects in the UK, Spain, the USA and Mexico, to provide structured games, training, facilities and health awareness education.

This will be targeted to groups of young people from diverse local communities who will benefit from improved integration through sport. Alongside this, ‘Toolkit’ sessions on nutrition, behaviour, conflict resolution and equality will engage youth and teach them to lead better lifestyles.


What will happen?

Weekly sessions of 90 minutes will take place in major cities. These will be aimed at 8-18 year old children from multiple racial and cultural backgrounds, who will be identified through contacts with schools and places of worship. Participants will engage in 1 hour football coaching with Atlético de Madrid or Coerver Coaching qualified coaches, with additional 30 minute sessions on nutrition and cultural exchange activities.


Launch event

The official launch event will be hosted at the House of Commons and Parliament Square on Monday 12 October 2015, starting at 10.30am.
The morning will kick off with 60 youths from diverse cultures and backgrounds participating in various football activities on the Speakers Common. They will be supervised by Football Association, Atletico Madrid FC, Tuff FC, Southall FC and Coerver coaches.

This will be followed by a meet and greet at 12.30 in Committee room 9, including a press conference, in which the FFU will present their mission statement.

The special guest speakers will be President of Atlético Madrid FC, Enrique Cerezo and President of Forbes LATAM, Mariano Menéndez

Amongst a number of prestigious guests attending will be Lady Victoria Borwick, MP for Kensington & Chelsea, the Dean of Westminster, Virendra Sharma, Ealing MP, ex-England footballer Sol Campbell, Peter Clayton, Chief Executive of Middlesex FA and Ambassadors of Mexico and Argentina.

The morning will conclude with refreshments & canapes for all guests in the Churchill Room.
